  • One of the most expensive cake till date is named as the “Pirates Fantasy” which cost a whopping $35 million!! It was created by Chef Dimuthu Kumarasinghe of Aitken Spence Hotels of Heritance Hotels and Resorts. It was embellished with ten different kinds of sapphires including the rarest and most expensive ‘Padmaraja’ or ‘King Sapphire’. It also had ten pieces of jewellery – necklaces, rings, tie pins, brooches pendants, bracelets, cuff links, nose rings and even toe rings.

 

  • Queen Victoria was among the first to have pure white icing on her wedding cake. Maybe that is why it is called ‘royal icing’.

 

  • The most expensive wedding cake is worth $52.7 million. It was created in march 2013 and was displayed at a Chester England shop called Cake. It had eight tiers and was studded with 4000 diamonds from Russell and Case of Liverpool, England.

 

  • The largest wedding cake used 10,000 pounds of cake batter and 4810 pounds of frosting. It weighed 15,032 pounds and was 17 feet tall. It was made by chefs of the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino, Uncasville, CT on February 2004.

 

  • The record of world’s tallest cake stands at 108 feet and 3 inches. Staff and students of Hakasima – Nilasari Culinary School in Jakarta baked it for Christmas. It weighed 19.99 tons.

 

  • 1655 was the year which saw the first sweet wedding cake. It was Banbury cake which is spiced currant filled cake with an oval shape.
